In 1980s Peru, the conflict between the guerrilla group Sendero Luminoso and the army forced Josué, a young Quechua with dreams of becoming a boxing champion, to flee his hometown. Separated from his family and forced to join the army, he promises to fight for a better future for them.

Josué eventually moves to Panama, where he struggles to survive by selling chicha and empanadas. There, he meets Gaby, a prostitute, who gives him new hope.
